Biography:
Out of all of the people I could talk about, the one that I can talk about the most is Bobby Orr. In my eyes, Bobby Orr is such an amazing and inspirational hockey player. His full name is Robert Gordon "Bobby" Orr.
He was born in the town of Parry Sound in Ontario, Canada. His grandfather was a professional soccer player who was originally from Ireland but then moved to Parry Sound in the 20th century.
He isn't that much different than his father, who was a hockey player himself, and who had the offer to join the Atlantic City Seagulls in 1942, but turned down the offer. His dad, Doug instead joined the Royal Canadian Navy. Bobby Orr had 4 siblings, Patricia, Ronny, Penny, and Doug Jr. Bobby was born on March 20, 1948 at St. Joseph's Hospital, where his grandmother Elsie Orr worked as a nurse. He was a sick baby at birth and his survival was questioned.
Bobby had his first organized hockey game in the year of 1953 at 5 years old, in the squirt division. He had got his first skates in the previous year. When he was young, Orr was small and frail, but could skate faster than anyone else on the ice. He had played the wing until he was ten years old when his coach, Bucko McDonald, a former NHL player, moved him to defense.
He played for the Boston Bruins from 1966-1976, so he played for ten years and was the MVP of their two Stanley Cup wins in 1970 and 1972. In 1976, he left Boston and joined the Chicago Blackhawks, but because of repeated injuries, he destroyed his left knee and retired at the age of 30 in 1978.
Orr was married in 1972. He is the father of two sons and is a grandfather. This is only a small amount of all of the great things that I could say about Bobby Orr, the hockey legend.
